On six fair pedestals, ranged two by two
Like Leda's sons, the smiling pillars stood;
As, each by either's side, they rose to view,
Spotless from limpid bath in some deep, dusky wood,
Draining their dripping locks. In either space
Between, three lattices, with blossoms bowered,
Alternate with three pictured scenes had place;
And all who saw believed some god empowered

Far from the Grecian camp, his rage profound
Soothing, with lyre in hand, sat Thetis' son,
Beside the ocean-wave that darkly dashed around.
