509. ARMY, A mercenary.—
He [George
III.] has endeavored to pervert the exercise
of the kingly office in Virginia into a detestable
and insupportable tyranny * * * by
transporting at this time a large army of foreign
mercenaries [to complete] the works of
death, desolation,a nd tyranny, already begun
with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy so
unworthy the head of a civilized nation.—
