The Political Economy of Adam Smith | ||
NOTES
[5.]
An eminent Scotch philosopher of the present day, Mr. Alexander Bain, has expressed to me a doubt that Adam Smith destroyed anything which he considered valuable; adding, that be was little disposed to consider anything to which he had given research and thought of small value. The preservation of the chief results of his jural studies in the Wealth of Nations reconciles Mr. Bain's opinion on this point with the destruction of the manuscripts, of which there seems to me conclusive evidence.
