HOOKER, Richard (1554-1600):
moderate English ANGLICAN theologian who defended EPISCOPACY and attacked what he saw as the excesses of PURITAN enthusiasm. His great work is Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity (1593-1662, 7 Vols.).
