Summary
Manuscript, Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia; Poe writes John Allan and adamantly reiterates that he has done nothing to deserve such neglect. Poe blames Allan for not "making exertions" of his own in an attempt to obtain the appointment for his son. Poe, however, emphasizes his hopes that he will be granted appointment by June and repeatedly tries to persuade his father that he has done everything in his power to further his own station in life.
