Summary
Manuscript, Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia; Poe writes to his father requesting permission to publish a poem with Carey, Lea & Carey. Edgar expresses his hope that he will be accepted at West Point. He also relates a robbery incident at Beltzhoover's Hotel, for which his cousin, Edward Mosher, is held responsible. He also mentions some financial difficulties in connection with Lt. Howard and Col. House. Edgar believes that he is the grandson of General Benedict Arnold.
