The sisters of one
Henry. R. Brooks, deceased Pvt of Company "G"
23d U.S. Colored Troops having made a Claim
against the U.S. Government for the Bounty &c
due the above named soldier, it is necessary
for the claimants to furnish evidence of two persons
who write showing that the said soldier left
surviving him no widow, child, or children,
father, mother, brother, or sister other than the
applicants,=Julia Washington, Luberta and
Jane Brooks,=and that said named sisters
and the deceased soldier were children of the
same mother

At the request of the clamiants I write to
inquire if You and one other person, (whom
You think would be a competent witness,) will
swear to the paper if sent to you by me.
The claimants state that they will refund to
You, through me, any expense you may be as incur
in executing the paper.

As they informed me that their father and
mother were formerly Your Slaves, I thought
You would be the proper person to write to
concerning the matter.

An early reply to the above will greatly
oblige
