SCENE XII. AND LAST.
The splendid eastern Garden, and Palace of Prince Azor, in which is introduced a superb representation of the
ICHIRAGAN; OR, FEAST OF TULIPS. A GRAND PROCESSION, AND DANCE TAKES PLACE;
After which, Scander, Zorayda, and Elmira enter— Selima affectionately embraces her Father—her Sisters gloomily solicit a reconciliation, which Selima appears inclined to grant.
RECITATIVE—BENIGNO.
And ye, Pride's slaves, by Envy's minions lead,
Justice with punishment wou'd not dispense;
Did not the Wrong'd for your forgiveness plead,
Then grateful bend to injur'd Innocence.
113
Magic in vain its power wou'd prove,
But love speaks trumpet tongu'd, tho' dumb;
To virtue, gratitude and love,
Then clash the cymbal, beat the drum.
But love speaks trumpet tongu'd, tho' dumb;
To virtue, gratitude and love,
Then clash the cymbal, beat the drum.
Tread the dance in sportive measure,
Beauty has obtain'd her Cause;
This the night of joy and pleasure,
If but crown'd with your applause.
Beauty has obtain'd her Cause;
This the night of joy and pleasure,
If but crown'd with your applause.
