Interior of the Powder Magazine.
Lanthorn alight in the entrance to it—barrels of gunpowder, cartridges, the powder trough, &c. visible in the flat.
Cæsar ENTERS, with a lighted match, dragging on Ismene much agitated—he horror struck with the task he has undertaken—she solicits—a pause— a loud crash is heard and discharge of cannon—both start—she again intercedes—he appears more resolute —another loud crash and heavy discharge of canon, with voices above singing out, “All's LOST!”— Cæsar, grown desperate, approaches the powder trough with his lighted match—Ismene throws herself before it, but is torn away by Cæsar, who is on the point of setting fire to the powder, when Abdallah

rushes on, stabs him, and bears her off through the door of the magazine.
