DEDICATION. TO HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF LEINSTER.
My Lord,
I have solicited your Grace's permission
to dedicate this Tragedy to you, not
merely on account of your exalted rank—
though that is the highest in your native country;
not merely on account of your condescension
to literary men—though that has induced
you to notice efforts even humble as mine;
but, because to the scattered nobility of a deserted
Country, you set the rare and illustrious
example of a resident Irish Nobleman.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Grace's very humble
and obedient Servant,
CHARLES ROBERT MATURIN.
