To the Right Honourable CAROLINE, Countess of Dalkeith.

Madam,

It has been a Custom, ancient as Time itself, for the Muse to seek the Protection of the Great and Good; pursuant to which, the Author of the following Pieces humbly presumes to adorn his Works with your Illustrious Name.

If they should be so Fortunate to find the least Approbation from so Excellent a Patroness, the highest of his Wishes are answer'd, and his Labours amply repaid; in Hopes of which, as well as Pardon for this Presumption, he begs leave to Subscribe himself, with the utmost Respect,

MADAM, Your most Humble, Most Obedient Servant,

Henry Carey.
