Timorous, hesitant voice, how utterly vile
I hold you!
Voice without wrath, without ruth—
empty of hate as of love!
Different notes from these, O watchman,
blow to the midnight!
Loud, in a deep-lulled land, trumpeter,
sound an alarm!
