WELCOME TO SARDINIA.
Brother in Arms, co-helper of the RightWith France and us,—all honour and all love,
Praises on earth, and blessings from Above,
On thee, Sardinia, and thy King alight:
Welcome, most worthy Comrade!—England's heart
Rejoices at the brave and generous part
Thy nobleness hath acted, in the sight
Of God and Man; that thou hast flung aside
Those papal tyrannies that prison'd thee,
And with a righteous boldness durst be free
From Rome and her intolerable pride:
Welcome! thou shalt not want for lovers here,
For everywhere our People far and wide
Will greet thee, Victor, with a British cheer.
