THE WAY OF LOVE

In that incomparable day,
The time of strong impetuous youth,
Love led me down the broader way;
But yet it was the track of truth.
I saw the sorrow on his face
Whenever I would turn aside;
I found to journey pace by pace
Was hard; and yet the way was wide.

Companionless the pilgrims plod
The smooth, but narrow, road; to each
Faith whispers little tales of God;
But Love knows more than Faith can teach.
