[“When evil falls, and you see all its scope]

“When evil falls, and you see all its scope,
Trust to the native courage of your breast,
And such auxiliar aid as fate may send,
To master the misfortune: trust yourself,
And trust your destiny, for such begets
That self-possession which endures the shock
Of rough adversity, and lifts the man
Above the waves and currents of the time;
But when the matter hangs in dread, and may
By strength or enterprise be yet repelled,
Then call your friends, take counsel, and take aid.”
