PRAYER UNDER AFFLICTION.

Almighty Power, who wing'st the storm,
And calm'st the raging wind,
Restore health to my wasted form,
And tranquillise my mind.
For, ah! how poignant is the grief
Which self-misconduct brings,
When racking pains find no relief,
And injur'd conscience stings.
Let penitence forgiveness plead,
Hear lenient mercy's claims,
Thy justice let be satisfied,
And blotted out my crimes.
But should thy sacred law of right
Seek life, a sacrifice,
O! haste that awful, solemn night,
When death shall veil mine eyes.
