ON PUTTING A FAMILY RING UPON MY FINGER, WITH THE MOTTO “MEMENTO MORI.”
“Remember Death!”—yes, I have much, much cause,
From loss of parents, sister, friends, and wife;
The laws of God (which men call Nature's laws)
Have those recall'd who long endear'd my life.
From loss of parents, sister, friends, and wife;
The laws of God (which men call Nature's laws)
Have those recall'd who long endear'd my life.
Hence, much of death I think, each day I live,
And much of those who death's dark vale have trod,
But most of Him whose words this comfort give—
That those who die in Christ shall live with God!
And much of those who death's dark vale have trod,
But most of Him whose words this comfort give—
That those who die in Christ shall live with God!
