SEPARATION.

Sad is the hour when lovers part;
In anguish flow their gushing tears,
And deeply throbs the bursting heart
With present woes and future fears.
To them is Time a sea that roars
And rages wild with troubled wave,
Whose waters whelm the blissful shores
Where Love had built his halcyon cave.
And their's the dark and joyless night,
On which no morning sheds its beams;
Where the wan moon, with sullen light,
Haunts the cold bow'rs and mournful streams.

Where Hope's dim star with dying ray
Sets in the gloom of gathering clouds;
And dread Despair, with iron sway,
Life's transient day in sorrow shrouds.
