She came to us in storm and snow—
The little one we held so dear—
And all the world was full of woe,
And war and famine plagued the year;
And ships were wrecked and fields were drowned.
And thousands died for lack of bread;
In such a troubled time we found
That sweet mouth to be kissed and fed.
