ADVICE
If I were you, with health and youth in touch—
Great gifts at hand, and greater gifts in store,
I would not, for the much, forget the more,
I would not, for the more, neglect the much.
Be rich to-day; but while to-day you clutch
The fruit which yesterday your hands forbore,
Bethink you of the days that stretch before,
And spare the seed which shall be fruit for such.
Not all to spend, nor all to save, is best;
To have, to hope; to enjoy, and still pursue;
To climb awhile, and then awhile to rest;
To love the old, and yet acclaim the new;
And “Good the goal” should be my creed confest,
If I were you, dear lad,—if I were you!
