The Country Cousin in Town

O Jerry, go and see the cattle show,
And see the cattle show,
And see the cattle show,
A sight you ought to see.’
There was a drizzling rain in Rotten Row,
And all alone went he.
The yellow fog crept up along the Strand,
And o'er and o'er the Strand,
And round and round the Strand,
Until you could not see
In front of you the distance of your hand,
And quickly lost was he.
‘Oh, is this Holborn, or Trafalgar Square,
The great Trafalgar Square,
The famed Trafalgar Square?
Can these the fountains be?’
Was ever country cousin anywhere
So utterly at sea?

They sent him home upon a jingling tram,
A cruel crawling tram,
A cruel crowded tram,
To his inn, in time for tea.
And now he says he would not give a d—n
The cattle show to see.
