II.

Clad in a robe of golden hue,
The sun had sunk to rest,
Some traces of his glorious course
Still lingered in the West;
Above the river's glassy face
Light wreaths of vapour lay
(The incense offered by the stream
To the bright God of day);
The air's transparent brilliancy
Permits the eye to trace
The outline of the distant hills,
No longer lost in space.
