Euphrenia or the Test of Love

A poem by William Sharp

XLIX.

Each spirit with humility
Yields to his abler friend;
Each fears he may not worthily
The sacred cause defend;
The Papist to the Lutheran
Politely gives the “pas,”
Alleging that the modern church
Is better read by far;
Till, one by one, they cease to speak,
And there remain but two;
One of whom shortly bows, and says,
“My Lord! I yield to you.”
