Naught breaks the silence of the night;
Each spirit seems to wait
Some warning signal, which shall serve
To open the debate;

Their flashing eyes all turn on one
Who differs from the rest,
Love, Might, Dominion, Majesty,
Are all in him expressed;
As, in the centre of the room,
With mild and thoughtful look,
Watching the sleeping youth, appears
The Spirit of “the Book.”
