XL.

Our youth essays to share the smile
Of her whom all admire;
His winning manners in her heart
A preference inspire:
In shortest space he feels as though
He spoke to one long known;
Their conversation soon assumes
A soft, familiar tone.
Thoughts, sentiments, opinions,
So happily agree,
Each in the other's nature can
A kindred spirit see.
