Poems Upon Several Occasions | ||
Translated from the Italian Poet Sannazarius.
When Neptune saw the Virgin Venice standFix'd in the Waves, and give the Sea command,
Now, Jove, says he, shall Rome compare with this?
Rome which you brag's the Worlds Metropolis;
Look first on this, proud Jove, then that of thine,
That built by Men, this built by hands Divine.
