INSCRIPTION FOR A REED-HOUSE

Say , if to shun the noisy day,
The summer sun's oppressive ray,
Thou visit'st Contemplation's cell,
Here tarry—she'll repay thee well:
For she can bid each passion cease,
And sooth the troubled heart to peace,
Can to thy sober wishes yield
Contentment's flow'r and Wisdom's shield.

At Cossy, the Seat of Sir William Jerningham.
