At wis hen[d]ing he may leren
Þat was marcolfes sone;
Gode þankes and manie þeues
For to wissen oþere schrewes
Þerto was euere hys wone. [OMITTED]
Wyt and wysdum lerneþ ȝerne,
And loke þat noman oþir werne
To ben wis and hende.
For betere it were to ben wys
Þan for to weren veir or gris,
Wer so man schal ende.
Wyt and wysdom is gode warisun:
q[uod hendi]ng.
Ne may noman in his owen londe
For no þink þat he can fonde
Wone at hom and speden;
So feles þewes for to leren
So he þat haueth w[is?] and dere
