LXV. Upon our being afraid of the Apparition of Evil Spirits.

Some fear more the Appearance of the Devil,
Than the Commission of the greatest Evil.
They start, they tremble, if they think he's near,
But can't be pleased unless Sin appear.
These Birds, the Fowler's Presence doth afright,
To be among his Lime-twigs, they delight.
But, just men who have with the Devil bin.
Have been more safe, than some in Heav'n with Sin.
