A Counsell to Courteours.

The bibull Spoynge in tepid water set,
Drinks till it fill each small and greedie pore:
But if the Barber in his hand it get,
He wrings all out, which it hath drunk a fore:
You that in Court with Kings and Princes stay,
Mark well in minde the water-spoynge I pray.
For if you stand on top of Fortunes wheele,
Be ware lest with the bibull spoynge you swal,
Drink not too much as gluttons, govern well,
Clim not too hie, incase you catch a fall:
The King makes vp, the King againe makes downe,
Both wealth and wrack awaits vpon a Crowne.
