O Lord
two thinges I the require,
that thou me not denie,
but that I may the frute therof
receiue before I die.
that thou me not denie,
but that I may the frute therof
receiue before I die.
The first shall be that vanitie
Thou wilt from me restrayne,
And eke the lips that luste to lye,
To flatter glose and fayne.
Thou wilt from me restrayne,
And eke the lips that luste to lye,
To flatter glose and fayne.
[60]
The seconde that thou make me not
To poore in any wyse,
Ne yet to riche: but meane lyuyng,
Of necessary cyse.
To poore in any wyse,
Ne yet to riche: but meane lyuyng,
Of necessary cyse.
Least when I am to full of welth
I thee forget and saye:
What felowe is the lorde? when I
Forgotten haue thy waye.
I thee forget and saye:
What felowe is the lorde? when I
Forgotten haue thy waye.
And lyke wyse least that pouertie
Constrayne me out of frame,
And me prouoke to steale O God
And to forsweare thy name.
Constrayne me out of frame,
And me prouoke to steale O God
And to forsweare thy name.
