Next tofor Bochas cam Lycynyvs,
A kniht of Denmark, born of riht good lyne,
Which had an enmy, the book reherseth þus,
An hardi kniht callyd Maxymyne,
Chose a capteyn with themperour Constantyne;
To Cristes feith he bar gret enmyte,
Slayn anon aftir in Tarce the cite.

Of whos deth Lycynyvs was glad,
Gan ageyn Cristene gret persecucioun,
In his proceedyng sodenli wex mad.

This Licynyvs, which falsli dide erre
Ageyn our feith Cristen men tassaille,
Geyn Constantyn of newe he gan a werre;
