An Emblem.
I've seen a drop of morning dew
Like radiant gem serene,
Bright sparkling on a verdant bough
All clad in summer-green.
Like radiant gem serene,
Bright sparkling on a verdant bough
All clad in summer-green.
The risen sun exhal'd the tear,
And drank it, as it shone;
The sudden lightning smote the branch,
It shiver'd, and was gone.
And drank it, as it shone;

It shiver'd, and was gone.
Was not that dew-drop like the bloom
And morning of our span?
And yonder broken, blasted bough,
Like the frail hope of man?
And morning of our span?
And yonder broken, blasted bough,
Like the frail hope of man?
