COMPLIMENT.

Cleverly done, it is certain!
And nobody can complain.
There was something about old friendship,
And hopes to meet often again.
When one is to die, it is pleasant
To have the knife bright and keen;
This awkward hacking is horrid—
Work not fit to be seen.
Here comes your friend, my darling—
A compliment to your art!
Who would think, to see you together,
You had stabbed him to the heart!
