BURIALS

When thou hast conquered in thine errant heart
Evil desires, base passions bold or sly,
Fighting them till to death at last they yield,
Then bid oblivion bury them apart
From all thy future, and so let them lie
In their own ignominious Potter's Field!
But when sweet aims and acts that now control
Moods of warm human pity and helpful care,
Cease from thy days, by full achievement crowned,
Bid memory build for these within thy soul
A mausoleum of majesty as fair
As any in earthly sculpture to be found.
