FOR THE SLAIN AT FREDERICKSBURGH

A glory lights an earnest end;
In jubilee the patriot ghosts ascend.
Transfigured at the rapturous height
Of their passionate feat of arms,
Death to the brave's a starry night,—
Strown their vale of death with palms.
