The holy prisoner doom'd to bear
Demoniac persecution's chain,
Hop'd humbly a protection where
Sincerity ne'er hopes in vain!

The glory of an angel flash'd!
The jailers slept! the fetters fell!
The bolted portals open dash'd.

Prisoner of passion! if sincere
Your trust in Heaven's protection be,
An angel will to you appear,
