THE SNOWDROP.

A nun of Winter's sisterhood,”
A Snowdrop in the garden stood
Alone amid the solitude
That round her lay.
No sister blossom there was seen;
No memory of what had been;
No promise of returning green,
Or scented spray:
But she alone was bold to bear
The banner of the Spring, and dare,
In Winter's stern despite, declare
A gentler sway.
So didst thou, Damien, when the glow
Of faith and hope was waning low,
For souls bewintered dare the snow,
And lead the way.
