OH, BREAK THE HARP!

(SONG.)

Oh, break the Harp! since now my heart is broken!
Let not another song by me be sung!
Since she is dead for whom these words were spoken—
Since she is dead for whom this Harp was strung!
Let not my hand another chord awaken—
No—let its echoes into silence die!
Since Joy my soul, on earth, has now forsaken,
By soaring with her to the heavens on high!
Here let me cherish now the faithful sorrow
Which she has left me in my heart's deep core;
And teach my soul that joy from Hope to borrow,
Which she shall yield me in this world no more!
