FAREWELL! FAREWELL!

Farewell, I leave thee with regret,
Without a moment to delay;
Just like the sun rose to set,
And close the busy scene of day.
Farewell, oh yes, the deep concern,
Gives birth to many a falling tear;
When parting never to return,
Again to those he loved so dear.
Farewell, it pains the dripping eye,
That never shed a tear before;
It wakes the dormant sleeping sigh,
To say that we shall meet no more.
Too well I know the pang of love,
To smile and hear the parting knell;
It turns a vulture to a dove,
To say forever, fare thee well.

125

Then friend adieu, if sure we part,
It is a bitter tale to tell;
A peal that breaks the tender heart,
Now and forever, fare the well.
