ESTABLISHMENT OF THE WILFORD W. SPRADLIN PROFESSORSHIP IN PSYCHIATRIC MEDICINE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Dr. Wilford W. Spradlin was born in Bedford County and took his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1953, and his M.D. in 1957; and
  • WHEREAS, Dr. Spradlin taught at Duke University and at West Virginia University before returning to the University of Virginia in 1978 as Chair of the Department of Psychiatric Medicine, a position he held until 1992; and
  • WHEREAS, Dr. Spradlin will retire in the fall of 1997 after a distinguished career as a teacher and as a leader in his discipline; and
  • WHEREAS, Colleagues, friends and former students of Dr. Spradlin have contributed generously to a fund for a professorship in his honor;
  • RESOLVED, The Board of Visitors establishes the Wilford W. Spradlin Professorship in Psychiatric Medicine in the School of Medicine, thanks those who have honored Dr. Spradlin with their gifts to the Medical School, and expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Spradlin for his devoted service to the University.
