ENDORSEMENT OF THE WOODROW WILSON COLLEGE PROPOSAL FOR
NORTHERN VIRGINIA
- The following resolution was adopted:
- WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia anticipates major population and student growth in the next two decades, especially in Northern Virginia - where that growth will likely exceed the capacity of existing colleges and universities; and
- WHEREAS, the University of Virginia and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University have long served the educational needs of Northern Virginia through their joint Continuing Education Center and through other programs; and
- WHEREAS, the Commission on the University of the Twenty-First Century has invited the submission of a joint proposal from these two Universities designed to meet the growing educational needs of the region; and
- WHEREAS, the two Universities have collaborated closely in recent months in preparing and submitting a proposal for Woodrow Wilson College;
- NOW BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Visitors hereby expresses its strong support for and endorsement of the Woodrow Wilson College proposal, and commends to the Commission on the University of the Twenty-First Century and the State Council for Higher Education the most careful consideration of this proposal as a way of meeting the rapidly growing needs of Northern Virginia for higher education of outstanding quality.
