REPORT ON THE AAU SALARY SCALE

The President reported that each year the rankings of the 50 AAU institutions are reported to the Board with respect to faculty salaries and faculty compensation. The University of Virginia's ranking for salary has been trending downward, while its ranking for total compensation has shown significant improvement in the last three years. The 1983 figures show the University of Virginia ranking as 24th in compensation and 30th in salary. The President said that he is hopeful that it will be possible to raise salaries next year enough to make a significant improvement in our rankings.
