The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University or Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Mr. Amir H. Assadi, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1981, for research.
  • Mr. Tyler A. Baker, Assistant Professor of Law, for the period September 1, 1981 through August 31, 1982, to serve as Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division, U.S. Department of Justice.
  • Mr. William F. Beazer, Associate Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1982, to visit Louis Pasteur University, Strasburg.
  • Mr. Leonard L. Berry, Professor of Commerce, for one semester, effective September 1, 1981, for research.
  • Miss Gladys E. Deters, Assistant Professor of Nursing, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1981, to accept a fellowship at the University of Alabama.
  • Mr. Charles E. Echols, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, for one semester, effective September 1, 1981, for personal reasons.
  • Mr. R. Lavar Huntzinger, Assistant Professor of Economics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1981, to visit the Center for Naval Analysis.

  • Mr. Bennett T. McCallum, Professor of Economics and Member of the Center for Advanced Studies, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1981, to accept a visiting appointment at the Carnegie-Mellon University.
  • Mr. James A. McPherson, Associate Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1981, to accept a MacArthur Fellowship.
  • Dr. Ferid Murad, Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pharmacology, for the period September 1, 1981 through December 31, 1981, for personal reasons.
  • Mr. Joseph J. Murray, Professor of Biology, for the period September 1, 1981 through September 30, 1981, to lecture in India.
  • Mr. Steven E. Rhoads, Associate Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one semester, effective January 16, 1982, to accept a Fellowship from the Institute for Educational Affairs.
  • Mr. Richard G. Wilson, Associate Professor of Architectural History, for the period September 1, 1981 through December 31, 1981, to teach at the Polytechnic, London, England.
