LEAVES OF ABSENCE

  • The following resolution was adopted:
    RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Mr. Edgar K. Browning, presently Associate Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1978, to accept a visiting research appointment at UCLA.
  • Mr. John C. Coleman, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective January 16, 1978, for travel and study.
  • Mr. Daniel T. Devereux, Associate Professor of Philosophy, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1977, to carry out research under a Fellowship from the Center for Hellenic Studies.

  • Dr. Nathanial M. Ewell, Jr., Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and of Internal Medicine, for two months, effective May 1, 1977, to attend to some private affairs.
  • Mr. Christopher Gale, Professor of Business Administration, for two academic years, effective September 1, 1977, to accept a position as Professor of Business Administration on the faculty of IMEDE Management Development Institute, Lausanne, Switzerland.
  • Dr. Thomas H. Hunter, Professor of Internal Medicine and Owen R. Cheatham Professor of Sciences, to be on leave the first semester of the 1977-78 session, to serve as a fellow in residence at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavorial Sciences, Stanford, California.
  • Miss Sue McCoy, Assistant Professor of Surgery, for one year, effective September 1, 1977, to attend Medical School.
  • Mr. Roland N. McKean, Commonwealth Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective January 16, 1978, to conduct research under a National Science Foundation grant.
  • Mr. Gregory S. Orr, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1977, to pursue his own writing on a Guggenheim Fellowship.
  • Mr. Austin Quigley, presently Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1977, to accept an NEH Fellowship for Independent Study and Research.
  • Mr. Herbert Stein, A. Willis Robertson Professor of Economics, for one semester, effective September 1, 1977, to conduct research at the American Enterprise Institute, Washington.
  • Mr. Robert S. Wood, Associate Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1977, to serve as Visiting Professor of Strategy, Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.
