CABELL HALL FIRE

The President reported that a fire was started by a bolt of lightning in the electrical system of a Cabell Hall elevator on September 21. The estimated damage to the attic was $50,000. Great quantities of water poured through the building after firemen cut openings in the roof to gain access to the burning areas. The heroic actions of the students prevented serious damage to books, records, and office equipment. Students also volunteered to clear the building of excess water, and to restore the building to serviceable condition so that classes could be held the following day. The Board joined the President in expressing gratitude to the students for their assistance.
