LITERARY SOCIETIES.

There are two Literary Societies of long standing, the Washington
Society and the Jefferson Society, connected with the University. They
meet weekly in their respective halls for the purpose of cultivating debate
and composition, and hold public exhibitions at intervals during
the session, and at its close. Each Society bestows medals on its best
debaters, and the two Societies in conjunction give a medal to the best
writer in the University Magazine, which is maintained by them.

The Annual Address before these Societies will be delivered the present
year on June 29th, in the Public Hall.
