3809. HOUDON (Jean Antoine), Statue of Washington.—
M. Houdon is returned[to
Paris] with the necessary moulds and measures
for General Washington's statue. I fear the
expenses of his journey have been considerably
increased by the unlucky accident of his tools,
materials, clothes, &c., not arriving at Havre in
time to go with him to America, so that he
had to supply himself there.—
To Governor Henry. Washington ed. i, 513.
Ford ed., iv, 134.
