VI. LOVE'S SAFETY.
1
Love! thou tremblest like a flameThat quivers in the air of night:
Is it the breath of love, or shame,
That strikes and seals thine eyes of light?
2
Like the lark in cold air singing,The glow-worm in the chill winds gleaming,
Dost thou quail; a sleep seems clinging
Toward thy bosom, passion-dreaming.
3
Wake! for eyes are watchful near;Thy face betrays forbidden feeling:
Wake! for, oh! bethink thee, Dear—
Love's safety lies in love-concealing.
