Joaquin Miller's Poems
XII
Gods! what a dauntless, daring sight!
Why, these strange men had fought all day!
Why, these strong men had marched all night;
Why, they had scarcely ate or slept,
Yet still with saucy pride they stept
And still each step was spank and gay.
